Normalization between Armenia and Azerbaijan is possible only when extra-regional forces stop interfering in the conflict, the Russian Security Council Secretary, Nikolai Patrushev, said at a meeting with his CIS colleagues in Moscow.
He added that for now, the steps of the West are only aggravating the situation.
“We are also interested in stabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus, creating conditions for promoting and strengthening mutual trust and cooperation,” Patrushev said.
According to Patrushev, Russia is consistently taking steps to comprehensively normalize Armenian-Azerbaijani relations in the interests of signing a peace treaty between these countries, delimiting borders, and opening transport communications.
“Practice shows that this is possible only when extra-regional forces do not interfere. The actions of Western countries provoke the aggravation of the situation in the region and contribute to contradictions in it,” he stressed.
