Olaf Scholz: Germany stands for a diplomatic solution on Karabakh

The German government insists on resolving the conflict over Artsakh between Armenia and Azerbaijan through diplomatic negotiations and rejects the path of military violence, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this during a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, reports the press service of the German government.

According to Scholz, the basis of a lasting peace between Yerevan and Baku should be the observance of the principle of territorial integrity in relation to Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the same time, he has stressed that Germany fully supports the efforts of the head of the European Council Charles Michel regarding a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“The latter supports the efforts for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in the region through negotiations with both Caucasian republics as well as France and Germany.”

Scholz has called the visit of the UN mission to Artsakh on October 1 “a positive step that should be used for further work.”
