A memorial ceremony marking the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide will be held in Argentina, Alex Hadjian, the Press and Communications Director of the Armenian Center of Argentina, told Alpha News.

According to him, there is a fairly large Armenian community in Argentina, which was formed in the early 20th century, when, as a result of organized pogroms and massacres in Ottoman Turkey, Armenians were forced to flee their lands.

“There are a large number of Armenians living in Argentina. Many are descendants of Armenians who survived the Genocide. Thanks to their unity, Armenians were able to create a large community here, preserving their culture and traditions. In Buenos Aires alone, we have five churches, seven schools, and a number of cultural centers. There are no official figures, but the approximate number of Armenians living here is 150,000,” he said.

Hadjian confirmed that, as always, events commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide are planned in Argentina.

“In Argentina, events are expected every year on April 24. On this day, we pray for our martyrs in the Cathedral of St. Gregory the Illuminator. We also have a memorial that we always visit, lay flowers and pay tribute to the victims. This year, we will also gather near the residence of the Turkish ambassador to remember the crime of 1915,” he said.
