Metakse Hakobyan, a member of the Justice faction in the Artsakh parliament, considers Pashinyan’s statement on the final closure of the Artsakh issue through a peace agreement unacceptable.

“All the theses from Pashinyan’s address are far-fetched and false. These are agreements between two people. They have defined the boundaries of our rights, goals and desires according to their own ideas. That’s not how it works—every person has a natural right to live where they were born. To justify their fictitious fake peace, they had to invent such theses and resort to blackmail: if you pursue your rights, you will be persecuted and condemned. What Pashinyan said did not concern the people of Artsakh, perhaps these were his promises given to a hostile country. In such a situation, there can be no talk of peace. If 150,000 people were forcibly displaced and now live in another part of their homeland, unable to visit the graves of their ancestors, then peace cannot be discussed, because it lacks justice at its core,” Metakse Hakobyan said in an interview with Alpha News.

According to her, from the actions of the Armenian authorities, one can conclude that they do not want to keep the people of Artsakh in Armenia.

“No Artsakh people – no Artsakh issue. Those who choose to live in Armenia are expected not to mention Artsakh, not to have goals or aspirations related to it, or else they face persecution. This is their policy. The promises being made for the future are clearly unrealistic—we see that every day. It is impossible for these authorities to provide such opportunities so that the Artsakh people can live and create in Armenia,” Metakse Hakobyan noted.

On August 18, Pashinyan addressed the nation and effectively confirmed that the peace agreement had permanently closed the Artsakh issue. According to Pashinyan, with the support of Armenia and the international community, Artsakh Armenians should settle in the Republic of Armenia and live, create, and establish themselves as full-fledged citizens.
