Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political analyst Artur Atayev commented on reports that Armenian authorities intend to intensify efforts to join the European Union if the ruling Civil Contract party wins the 2026 parliamentary elections.

“Economic interaction between Russia and Armenia within the Eurasian space is strengthening, and there are trends toward strengthening it, because Armenia has not weakened its focus on economic projects within the EAEU. But the path toward European integration remains uncertain because Western partners don’t have much interest in Armenia,” Atayev said.

According to the political analyst, the current level of relations with Russia will remain in a state of cold stagnation.

“The current nature of relations with Russia will remain in a zone of cold stagnation—neither progressing nor regressing. I mean that in the political, cultural, and social spheres, engagement at the level of civil society institutions will stagnate. Economically, everything will be pragmatic and, naturally, stable,” Atayev concluded.
