Speaking with Alpha News, political observer Andrey Perla commented on the different interpretations of the agreements between Yerevan and Baku, reached in Washington, by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to the expert, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan clearly understands that what he signed in Washington and what he is imposing on Armenia is causing enormous opposition.

“Pashinyan fails to prove to the majority of the country’s population that surrendering to Azerbaijan is good, that severing relations with Russia is good, that giving up a piece of one’s territory, in this case the Syunik region, partially for an international project is good. Therefore, Pashinyan has to prove something else: that he is actually for multi-vectorism, that the project he is implementing is beneficial for Armenia, that not only Turkey is interested in this project, but also, for example, China.

But Aliyev has no such need and, even more so, no need to play along with Pashinyan. Aliyev has a completely different task: to make sure that Pashinyan fulfills all the obligations he has undertaken.

Therefore, looking from the outside, it seems as if they do not understand each other. In fact, they all understand each other perfectly well,” Perla said.

“It should be noted that what Pashinyan is doing now can really lead to the fact that not only Turkey, but also China will be interested in the existence of the ‘Zangezur corridor’. If this happens, we will get a significantly different geopolitical situation than we have had so far,” Perla concluded.
