Pashinyan is destroying all foundations of Armenian identity — Maxim Atayants
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian architect Maxim Atayants, head of the Armenian Church of St. Catherine in St. Petersburg, commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s attacks against the Armenian Apostolic Church.
“Firstly, there is nothing new in this. If we recall the beginning of Pashinyan’s tenure as Prime Minister, one of his first steps was to revoke diplomatic passports from all bishops. Secondly, with the complete connivance of the police, a disgusting demonstration was organized around the residence of the Catholicos at one time. In addition, his anti-church position remains consistent. Attempts to present Pashinyan as crazy or unstable are everyone’s personal opinion, but, in my opinion, he acts absolutely consciously and purposefully. He systematically destroys all possible foundations of Armenian identity and the unity of statehood,” he said.
According to Atayants, the Prime Minister of Armenia is destroying the pillars of Armenian identity and is acting with complete consistency.
“I will not speculate on whose methodological instructions he is following and whose agent he might be. But Robert Kocharyan said it better than anyone. I will remind you of his quote, ‘I do not know whether Pashinyan is a Turkish agent, but all his actions suggest that he is.’ Therefore, there is absolute consistency in his actions—an attack on any institutions that could save the Armenian people from disintegration, loss of statehood and further destruction,” Atayants concluded.
