Pashinyan is following Zelensky’s path – Alexey Leonkov
Military analyst Alexey Leonkov spoke to Alpha News about the Armenian leadership’s actions in connection with the arrest of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan.
“Watching what’s happening in Armenia, it seems Pashinyan is following Zelensky’s path. That is, he’s getting rid of any opposition that could threaten his plans—plans he’s carrying out at the behest of those who masterminded them. That’s why, by the way, it’s not just government officials who are being targeted, but also representatives of religious circles, including priests. They are also being persecuted for certain statements, but they are always charged with supposed economic crimes, so they don’t look like political prisoners. In reality, they are, because the repressions Pashinyan is currently unleashing are purely political in nature. Anyone who opposes him becomes a target. People are either forced to leave Armenia or are seized and imprisoned on fabricated charges,” Leonkov said.
According to the expert, Pashinyan, like the Ukrainian president, is usurping power under the guise of democratic rhetoric, and Europe will not want to see anything reprehensible in his actions.
“In the West, such a leader is viewed as democratic. After all, Zelensky is also considered a democrat and they say, ‘He’s not a fascist!’ Even though his presidential term has already expired, he is still considered legitimate. In reality, he is a dictator who has usurped power. Pashinyan, who still has legal powers according to the laws of the Republic of Armenia, is also usurping power. Now he is fighting dissent, hiding behind democratic slogans. I assure you, if representatives of some European Commission on Human Rights come, they will not find any violations and will say, ‘Everything is within the norm and according to the law!'” he concluded.
