Pashinyan is heading toward severing ties with Russia – Vasily Koltashov
Political scientist Vasily Koltashov spoke to Alpha News about Nikol Pashinyan’s anti-Russian rhetoric, his course toward severing ties with Moscow, and the potential consequences for Armenia, including its role in advancing Azerbaijan’s interests.
“A break in relations with Moscow will turn Armenia into a logistical base for Azerbaijan. And when Azerbaijan enters into armed conflict with Russia, if Russian diplomacy fails to prevent Baku from taking such steps through various pacifying measures, Armenia will assist Azerbaijan with cargo transit, trade, and so on. Thus, the Zangezur corridor will largely serve to support Azerbaijan’s actions against Russia,” Koltashov said.
According to the expert, the Armenian leadership’s anti-Russian rhetoric aims to completely sever all ties with Russia.
“At any moment, Pashinyan could announce Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO, fully ending its participation and severing all ties. Moscow is already prepared for this, and Pashinyan has achieved it. The rhetoric of the Armenian leadership’s anti-Russian policy is that it is necessary to destroy the cooperation mechanisms that previously existed—dismantling the CSTO, halting trade, cutting all ties, and even, where possible, eliminating the teaching of the Russian language entirely,” Koltashov concluded.
