Pashinyan is making a mistake, hoping for the West’s help – Alexey Timofeev
Speaking with Alpha News, journalist Alexey Timofeev commented on Armenian-Russian relations on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance.
According to the expert, Pashinyan is making a mistake, hoping for the West’s help.
“If diplomatically, I would say that our relations ‘could have been better’, but to put it straight, I would call them ‘bad’. They are not just bad, they have a tendency to deteriorate.
Not so long ago, there were Armenian-American military exercises. We know about Pashinyan’s and his team’s contacts with France. I believe that Pashinyan is making a mistake, hoping that the West will do something to help him. The West cannot help Pashinyan, just as it did not help in the conflict with Azerbaijan in Karabakh. Pashinyan hopes that the West will somehow oppose some of Azerbaijan’s ambitions and aspirations, but no. Azerbaijan demonstrates sovereignty in the current conditions.
Armenia, unfortunately, does not demonstrate this sovereignty. They pin their hopes on outside help, being geographically far away. Instead of solving issues with their nearest neighbors, for some reason they hope that help will come from afar,” Timofeev concluded.
