A group of citizens staged a protest today, June 2, outside the Armenian government building in defense of the Armenian Apostolic Church. They demanded that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his wife, Anna Hakobyan, be held accountable for interfering in the affairs of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

The protesters burned incense in front of the executive building, claiming that the government needs an exorcism ritual.

“The Armenian Apostolic Church should hold a rite to eradicate all this evil—this anti-Christ influence from our government. This is our building, and we need to purify the people who have occupied it, we start with incense,” said citizen Eleonora Manandyan. According to her, Pashinyan is trying to destroy the pillar of the Armenian nation—the Armenian Apostolic Church.

“Nikol Pashinyan has finally crossed the red line, if for other cases he came up with some explanations, this time he cannot present any explanations. I appeal to all those who pray and light candles—where are you when your faith is being trampled, when Pashinyan dares to desecrate the Armenian Apostolic Church? If we tolerate this, it will no longer make sense to consider that we have Armenia and that we are Armenians. We demand to bring Nikol Pashinyan to justice and call for his wife to face criminal accountability,” she said.

On May 30, Pashinyan and his wife posted statements on social media attacking the clergy.
