Samvel Lulukyan, a board member of the Central Council of Armenians in Germany, has information that the issue of Armenian prisoners held in Baku was not addressed during Pashinyan’s meeting with the German Chancellor.
Lulukyan told Alpha News that Pashinyan’s visit was accompanied by protests.
“Through the protest, German Armenians expressed their dissatisfaction with the events taking place in Armenia. Our demand is to put an end to the ongoing pressure against the Armenian Apostolic Church and the unlawful arrests. With the second protest, we tried to draw Merz’s attention to the issue of Armenian prisoners unlawfully held in Baku,” Lulukyan said.
According to the board member, the fact that the Armenian community in Germany does not support Pashinyan is nothing new. Moreover, German Armenians consider the situation in Armenia unacceptable. Lulukyan noted that this was precisely why, ahead of Pashinyan’s visit, several organizations appealed to Merz, urging him not to ignore the issue of prisoners held in Baku and the repressions taking place in Armenia.
“This is not the first time we have addressed the Chancellor with a letter. The Council of Armenians in Germany has been fighting for many years for the protection of prisoners’ rights, and this struggle will continue. Four well-known organizations signed this statement. In the letter, we clearly stated that the Armenian Prime Minister is not trying to resolve this issue,” Lulukyan noted.
