What does the Azerbaijani president’s signature have to do with a road that runs through the territory of our sovereign and independent state? What jurisdiction has he assumed? International affairs expert Andranik Hovhannisyan posed this question in an interview with Alpha News.
“The document signed on August 8 specifically mentions the road that would pass through the territory of the Republic of Armenia. There would be no problem if the so-called ‘Trump Bridge’ applied not to the road passing through the Syunik region, but to the entire route, which, for example, would pass through Azerbaijan. If it applied to both Armenia and Azerbaijan, there would be no problem, because both parties would have equal status under this agreement. But when the status of a road passing only through the territory of Armenia is specifically mentioned, it raises many questions: What does Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s signature have to do with a road running through the territory of our sovereign and independent state? What jurisdiction has he assumed in predetermining the status or which states should ensure the safety of a road that would pass through Armenia?” Hovhannisyan said.
According to the expert, Pashinyan signed a document that raises numerous questions and problems.
“When you invite other forces into your region to ensure security, it already creates problems. If you have not fully resolved your relations with a state with which you want to establish peace but try to push certain issues forward or delay them, this will create problems for future security. When Pashinyan signed this document, he saw that these issues remained unresolved. We can assume that the head of state signed a document that does not include further solutions but rather raises a host of problems and questions,” Hovhannisyan concluded.
