Pashinyan turned Armenia into anti-Russian tool and put it up for auction – Alen Ghevondyan
Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Alen Ghevondyan commented on the statement by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas that Armenia had asked Europe for assistance ahead of the 2026 elections. According to the political scientist, the government realizes that its authority is at a historic low, and it needs money and administrative resources to solve this existential problem.
“The current authorities face both existential and physical security problems. They understand that they could lose power in a single day, which could create extremely problematic situations,” the political scientist said.
According to him, no one is talking about Armenia’s interests or security, and Pashinyan has put Armenia up for auction, selling it to Europe as an anti-Russian tool.
When asked whether this aid would be aimed at reproducing Pashinyan’s power, Ghevondyan said, “The European Union is saying: we will pay you for re-election, and you will have to provide us with services against Russia and against Russian influence in the South Caucasus.”
He also drew parallels between Armenia, Ukraine, and Moldova in the context of EU policy, noting, “This path could lead to the loss of statehood or its fragmentation. We will be used and then discarded. Do you imagine the fate of discarded states? They either cease to exist or disintegrate.”
