The Prime Minister of Armenia has embarked on a dangerous game, the goal of which is to mobilize his own electorate. This was stated by Tigran Kocharyan, Editor-in-Chief of Alpha News.

According to him, Pashinyan is attempting to rally that segment of the electorate which is ready to abandon Artsakh and demands for Genocide recognition in exchange for warm relations with Turkey.

“Pashinyan is trying to consolidate his electorate, that is, supporters of the ‘Turkish party,’ people who hate Artsakh. They have been misled by narratives claiming that we live poorly because of Artsakh, or that the Genocide was imposed on us by the Russians,” Kocharyan said.

He emphasized that the authorities are repeating talking points originating from the Turkish General Staff, claiming that Armenians also killed Turks. According to Kocharyan, this is groundwork being laid for an official renunciation of Genocide recognition after the elections. “By doing this, he is effectively stripping the Diaspora of its most important weapon. The next step will be the abandonment of Genocide recognition, which is a direct order from Turkey,” Kocharyan noted.

According to Kocharyan, Pashinyan’s most powerful tool is intimidating society with the specter of a September war. When asked why September specifically, he said: “Because in September 2020, there was the 44-day war in Artsakh, which brought pain and continues to cause suffering to the Armenian people. He is simply invoking that memory. It is his last trump card. All the other narratives, ‘the former ones,’ ‘agents,’ ‘the Church’, no longer work. He has moved on to the final argument, war.”
