Pashinyan’s political figure leaves a big question mark in Moscow – Viktor Baranets
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian military observer Viktor Baranets commented on the reasons for the failed Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting within a summit of the CIS heads of state.
“No matter how many times the sides sit down at the negotiating table, each side still has complaints. You can shake hands, hug, and say that the confrontation is falling, but in reality, there is still discontent inside every Azerbaijani or Armenian. Well, it is good that at least something, at least partially, has been clarified here in Moscow,” Baranets said.
According to the expert, the withdrawal of Russian border guards from the checkpoint on the border between Iran and Armenia does not contribute to Armenian-Russian relations, and official Moscow draws its own conclusions.
“If Russian border guards are withdrawn from anywhere, be it a frontier post or a checkpoint, this is in any case an unfriendly sign. That’s the only way we see it. But, you know, we have already gotten used to it. I want to tell you that here in Moscow, it has already been said that Armenia will soon expel our base. But now, it seems, after the meeting in Moscow, this all-or-nothing thinking of the Armenian side has disappeared. Nevertheless, Pashinyan’s political figure leaves a big question mark over himself here in Moscow because we cannot understand the direction in which he is moving,” the expert stressed.
