Peace possible if Armenia shows strong commitment, Azerbaijani official says

A peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia is possible if the latter is constructively involved in the process presented by Azerbaijan a year ago, Ambassador Elchin Amirbekov, the representative of the President of Azerbaijan for special assignments, said in an interview with the Italian Adnkronos.
The positive outcome of the agreement “will largely depend on the level of sincerity of the Armenian authorities”, said Amirbekov, accusing Armenia of showing a dual approach.
“On the one hand, they are talking about the desire to complete work on a peace treaty, and on the other hand, they are waging a diplomatic war against Azerbaijan.
Thus, Yerevan not only diverts the attention of all interested parties from the main path but also brings the process to a dead end,” said Amirbekov, stressing that Baku “does not put forward any conditions” for reaching an agreement.
“But I think that in order to reach an agreement, Armenia must show that it respects the commitments and that it will fulfill the promises made in the past,” he said.
