Peace treaty will not ease tension between Yerevan and Baku, says political scientist
Speaking to Alpha News, political scientist Gleb Kuznetsov noted that all the so-called international mediators want to take credit for the peace treaty, proving that it was their heroic mediation efforts that led to a positive result.
“It seems to me that the tension between Yerevan and Baku has such a long, deep, and diverse history that it will not be possible to ease it, no matter how much any of the mediators would like it. If we succeed in signing the so-called peace treaty, this will not relieve any tension either.
Because there are a huge number of problems that are not just unresolved but cannot be resolved in the foreseeable future. These problems will not allow the tension to disappear. As for international initiatives, it is clear that everyone from the group of so-called mediators wants to take credit, that is, to prove that it was their heroic mediation efforts that led to a positive result of a signed treaty,” he noted.
Commenting on statements by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova regarding demonstrative anti-Russian gestures on the part of the Armenian authorities, Kuznetsov said that the Russian Foreign Ministry cannot help but express indignation at Armenia’s attempts to please Western partners, but the story will not go anywhere beyond that.
“Repeated expressions of deep concern from the Foreign Ministries of both sides will continue, but they will not have any real consequences.
Azerbaijan has participated in these pro-Ukrainian events since February, and at the same time, signed an alliance agreement with Russia, and on the same day condemned what was happening in Ukraine. That is, if Russia took measures against all those countries that somehow communicated with Ukraine over the past two years, then Russia really would not have a single foreign policy contact left. Because even the most loyal and friendly states to Russia do not refuse contacts with Ukraine.
Thus, I think that since there is now a great interest in Armenia, our Foreign Ministry cannot but express indignation at Armenia’s attempts to please its Western partners, but this story will not go anywhere beyond that,” Kuznetsov said.
