People are fed up with all this European rhetoric – Dmitry Kiseyev on elections in Romania and Moldova

 
 
Speaking with Alpha News, Moldovan lawyer Dmitry Kiseyev commented on the presidential elections in Romania and Moldova. According to the expert, people are dissatisfied with the European policy and support for Ukraine.

“Speaking about Romania, we must understand that people voted largely out of protest because they are somewhat dissatisfied with all this European policy, support for Ukraine, and so on. That is why people voted for a populist, of a fairly nationalistic nature, a person who says that Romania is above all for him, not Europe or Ukraine, a person who appeals to national feelings, saying that Romania is above all, and these European elites should decide their own issues by themselves, especially those related to Ukraine. Because in Romania there is quite a lot of dissatisfaction with the fact that it is financing Ukraine with its own money.

And Calin Georgescu, who won the first round of the presidential elections in Romania, having sensed this nerve, actively played on it throughout the entire election campaign. That is why people responded to him so actively,” Kiseyev said.

“Calin Georgescu does not have an election campaign staff; he does not have media. He rarely appeared on TV channels; he worked mainly on the Internet through TikTok. He was able to reach the people with very simple messages. He spoke about what worries people. And when you listen to all these European elites, representatives of all pro-European parties, it is very difficult for an ordinary person to understand what they are talking about and what problems they will solve. That is, people are very fed up with this European rhetoric, and they no longer respond to these calls,” Kiseyev noted.

According to the expert, protest voting within Moldova is very serious.
 
“In Moldova, the elections were held with the help of the diaspora. The result was largely ensured by the diaspora, but within the country the pro-European course lost in many ways. And politician Maia Sandu also lost within the country. That is, a very serious layer of the population has formed within the country that is not happy with everything that is happening. And this led to a specific result. Therefore, what will they do with this result next, and how will it affect the parliamentary elections? That’s a good question. The protest vote within the country is very serious, and, of course, the authorities need to take this into account,” Kiseyev concluded.
