Russia and Armenia have agreed on the withdrawal of Russian military and border guards from some provinces of Armenia, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Interfax.
He added that, at the request of the Armenian side, the Russian border guards will remain at Armenia’s border with Iran and Turkey.
“Russian soldiers and border guards were deployed in a number of Armenian provinces at Armenia’s request in the fall of 2020. Pashinyan said that today it is no longer needed due to changed circumstances, so President Putin agreed to withdraw our military and border guards,” he said.
Peskov noted, however, that again, at the request of the Armenian side, the Russian border guards will remain at the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Iranian borders.
“They will stay there and continue to perform their functions,” Peskov said.
In general, according to the Kremlin spokesperson, Putin and Pashinyan discussed the positive dynamics of the development of Armenian-Russian trade and economic relations.
