According to the decision of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre should no longer be called “national”, it should be replaced with the word “state”. Alpha News talked about this topic with Armenian Canadian composer Petros Shoujounian.
According to him, everything that is happening today is a plan to dismantle Armenia.
“What has been happening in Armenia since 2018 is completely incomprehensible. I could never even imagine that our country could end up in such a situation. This is a plan to dismantle the whole of Armenia, which is sad. And the later the plan for change of power is implemented, the higher the price we will pay for our existence. This government is trying to destroy everything national and turn us into a bunch of robots. The only thing we can do is pray that we will be freed from this evil as soon as possible. I no longer recognize my people, I could not even imagine that we would end up in such a situation. However, we should not despair, we should unite, combine our thoughts and strength to get out of this difficult situation,” Shoujounian said.
Speaking about the current situation at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, the composer noted:
“When Konstantin Orbelyan started working at the opera house in 2015-2016, historical changes took place. Even though the management changed a few years later, it is necessary to emphasize that today our opera is doing large-scale work. However, along with all this, in my opinion, there are important gaps. We should further expand the presence of our opera house in the international arena. It must be recognized that today Armenia has a high level of opera singers, and these personnel must be used to further raise our level on opera stages around the world. We need to maintain constant contact with opera artists working abroad, share experiences, and invite directors and musical directors, which will contribute to raising the level.”
