Popular unrest leads to emergence of new popular leaders, expert says
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Nikolai Starikov commented on the rallies in Yerevan.
According to the political scientist, the Armenian people are now 100% sure that what is happening in the country does not coincide with their interests.
“Experience has shown that if people really want something, they get it. They only need the leaders who will organize everything and make this wish a reality. It is obvious that the Armenian people have now not only begun to suspect but also to be 100% sure that something is happening that does not coincide with their interests. The current government is surrendering the interests of the state at an increasingly accelerating pace. This can already be seen with the unaided eye. And here the question arises: how to put an end to this? We see that popular unrest leads to the emergence of new popular leaders. We hope that both the discontent and the presence of these leaders will make the Armenian people’s will come true,” Starikov said.
According to the expert, the last straw for the people was the transfer of part of the territories under Azerbaijan’s control.
“I think that the transfer of part of the territories under Azerbaijan’s control, as the leaders of the protesters have repeatedly said, became the reason for the rallies. It is obvious that people on the streets adhere to a completely different point of view than people in high offices. This is the reason for the rallies that we are seeing and for the discontent that is becoming louder,” Starikov concluded.
