Prime Minister’s labeling of any actions as ‘money laundering’ is instruction to law enforcement – Gohar Meloyan

The Prime Minister’s official characterization of any actions as “money laundering”—based on video recordings—is a direct order to Armenia’s law enforcement agencies, as well as yet another manifestation of disregarding the presumption of innocence by a public official, constitutional law expert Gohar Meloyan said on her Facebook page.
“Lawyers engaged in criminal defense will confirm that Armenia is currently a unique country in the world with such a huge number of money laundering accusations per capita.
It is now clear why law enforcement behaves this way, easily classifying any civil transaction in Armenia as ‘money laundering’.
Moreover, the aforementioned unlawful directive was given on the basis of a one-sided report by a person who is in official subordination to him, without taking into account the objections of the other interested party.
Authorities guided by national interests would now be posting videos of gratitude and presenting the enormous work accomplished. Rather than manipulating, lower the electricity tariff,” she said.
