Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Movses Ghazaryan commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Russia and predicted how the Pashinyan administration will proceed in the future.

“Pashinyan’s visit to Moscow comes at a pivotal moment for both Armenia and the Armenian ruling group. In fact, the situation facing Armenia and the Armenian ruling group led by Nikol Pashinyan is quite complex. The era of the Fourth Republic, initiated and proclaimed by Pashinyan, demands, on one hand, support from Yerevan’s closest partners, or at least a balanced relationship with them, and on the other, maximum stability in managing domestic and foreign affairs.
And in this case, it would be dangerous for Pashinyan to create exclusively tense moments in bilateral relations with Russia.

Whether any of these issues have been resolved will likely become clear in the near or medium term. What’s certain is that Moscow is addressing the matter directly: it does not maintain close ties with countries that show no desire to be aligned with Russia. But waiting until the very end could provide the Armenian leadership with an opportunity to draw the right conclusions and perhaps begin bilateral relations in a slightly different format. That is, we could be talking about a reset of full-fledged bilateral relations. But here, Moscow values not only consistency but also sincerity and a willingness to genuinely build such a relationship—not as part of a strategic maneuver to gain leverage with Western partners, but as a true partnership that serves the interests of both Armenia and its people, while contributing to regional security in the South Caucasus,” Ghazaryan said.
