Armenia cannot allow itself to become a victim of the new world order

February 18 2025, 16:00

On February 17, Robert Kocharyan, the former President of Armenia and Artsakh, held a press conference. During the more than four-hour conversation with journalists, Kocharyan touched upon a wide range of topics, from the simplified tax system (which was introduced during his presidency) to the assessment of what happened in Artsakh and the changing geopolitical situation in the world. Kocharyan noted that the ongoing developments may show that in the next 20-30 years the world will live in a post-liberal stage, which, in his opinion, is very positive.

One of the main conclusions from the second president’s statements is that Armenia cannot allow itself to become a victim of the new world order.

But what should Armenia do to avoid remaining “under the ruins of the new world order”? Conceptually, Kocharyan also gave an answer to this question: Armenia with and without the Diaspora are two different countries, deepening relations with Iran, restoring strategic partnership with Russia, and ensuring the return of Armenians to Artsakh based on the November 9, 2020 declaration. Nevertheless, the question remains unanswered as to what kind of world order awaits us. What awaits us in a situation where the neoliberal world and the tools of establishing its dictatorship are dead?

To answer this question, we need to go back a few years. In December 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued an ultimatum to the United States to provide it with security guarantees. Among other things, Moscow demanded guarantees from the United States and NATO that Ukraine and Georgia would not join the alliance and that they would refrain from conducting any military activity on the territory of Ukraine, in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia.
The implementation of Moscow’s demands would lead to a revision of the entire security architecture built around Russia’s borders, which was aimed at containing Russia. This, in turn, would lead to the fact that the world would officially become multipolar, where Russia would have its own zone of legitimate strategic interests and borders.

And so US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a recent interview that multipolarity is a reality, a reality of today. Moreover, the Financial Times and Bloomberg, citing unnamed officials, have already written that the United States may withdraw its troops from the Baltic countries amid talks with Russia. Moreover, it is reported that European officials believe that Donald Trump is likely to agree to withdraw American troops from the Baltic states and possibly further west.

In addition, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that the United States cannot ensure the security of Europe anymore and intends to switch to containing China in the Asia-Pacific region. And US Vice President JD Vance criticized the policies of European states in the areas of migration, freedom of speech and security, effectively accusing the EU of having built something at the expense of Americans that contradicts Europe’s fundamental values.

The world is changing before our eyes, and leaders who do not understand all this are dangerous for their countries.

Think about it.…
