As part of “The People Speak” project, Alpha News conducted surveys in Yerevan and Armenian-populated communities in the United States and Russia to determine citizens’ opinions on the most pressing issues of the day.
Respondents expressed their opinions on current events in the country. Many noted that the authorities’ actions are perceived as steps against the Apostolic Church.
“A schism is already happening. Pashinyan’s actions are going against the Church. This is wrong, and we support Samvel Karapetyan and the Apostolic Church,” said one respondent.
There was also harsh criticism of the government: “This is a blatant violation of all the principles of a democratic state. It should draw attention not only in Armenia but across the world.”
Respondents paid special attention to the issue of relations with Turkey.
“If the Turks have been our enemies for centuries, how can we be friends with them now?” one respondent asked.
At the same time, respondents spoke about the future of Armenia and their expectations of the country’s leadership.
“Armenia should be led by Armenians who love their country and care about its future,” said one respondent.
“A leader must be a patriot of his country, develop production, and provide a normal education,” added another.
