Pashinyan’s attempt to interrupt the media effect of Robert Kocharyan’s press conference

February 21 2025, 11:32

The day before, Nikol Pashinyan presented a draft ideology of the “Real Armenia” live, which included 14 provisions. We will not even dwell on the fact that in 2019, Pashinyan said that the Civil Contract party rejects “isms”, that is, rejects ideology, and today he presents the concept of a quasi-ideology for the whole state. We will focus on other aspects related to Pashinyan’s address to the people.

And to do this, we will answer three questions:

Why now?

On February 17, after an almost 2.5-year break, the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, delivered a press conference. The press conference, which lasted more than four hours, caused a wide response. According to the Past newspaper, 958,144 users watched the press conference on various Armenian platforms as of 3 p.m. on February 19. Despite all the attempts by members of the Civil Contract party in the media field to interrupt the effect of Kocharyan’s statements, it apparently became clear to the authorities that this could not be done, and therefore, to abruptly change the agenda, Pashinyan presented the “concept of the ideology of real Armenia” right now.

Does he justify his own importance?

Pashinyan said in his video message that the adoption of a new Constitution through a national referendum is important, since all previous referendums held to adopt the current Constitution have a serious lack of legitimacy in the eyes of the public. We are not interested in formal justifications, since it is obvious that the adoption of the new Constitution has a different geopolitical context. Baku and Ankara demand this. With the fall of the globalist Democrat party in the United States, Pashinyan has two basic pillars left: London and Ankara with Baku. Readiness to amend the Constitution is an attempt to prove his own importance to Azerbaijan and Baku.

Who else has been through this?

However, the whole problem is that the current geopolitical processes (everything that is happening around Ukraine and Europe in general) suggest that no matter how you cede your sovereignty, no matter how you serve the interests of foreign actors to the detriment of national interests, there will still come a period when your functional importance disappears. Vladimir Zelensky and the EU countries will confirm this…

In other words, Pashinyan’s experiment with addressing the people, trying to interrupt the media effect of Kocharyan’s statements, introducing narratives of Turkey and Azerbaijan into his policy, as well as ignoring geopolitical realities, turned out to be frankly unsuccessful.

Think about it…
