“Putin’s project” Pashinyan surrendered Armenia to the United States

The Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America was signed in Washington the other day. The document contains 5 sections and is devoted to a wide range of areas of cooperation between Yerevan and Washington. The document is available both on the websites of the official bodies of Armenia and the United States, as well as in the media. We will highlight several points from the Charter itself, as well as from the statements made by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during the solemn ceremony of signing the document.
1. The United States welcomes Armenia’s efforts to deepen its political, economic and social ties with other countries of the Euro-Atlantic Community.
2. Mirzoyan announced the establishment of the strategic partnership commission, which will oversee the expansion of cooperation between the countries in economy, defense industry, “security and democracy.”
3. He also stated that Armenia intends to join the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, led by the United States.
4. Blinken said that the parties are negotiating on “peaceful nuclear security and nuclear energy.”
5. The US Secretary of State also said that a special border patrol team will arrive in Armenia next week, which will work together with their Armenian counterparts “on border security capacity building, strengthening security cooperation, enhancing Armenia’s peacekeeping capabilities.”
For a long time, the narrative has been spreading in the Armenian “expert community” (often at the suggestion of political forces, including those calling themselves oppositional) that “Pashinyan is Putin’s project.” On January 14, this “Putin’s project” surrendered to the United States the spheres of customs and border control, nuclear energy, and, in general, the Armenian energy system, and also once again stressed Yerevan’s desire for Euro-Atlantic integration (in other words, the desire to join NATO).
Everyone, including the Azerbaijani authorities, was aware that Yerevan and Washington were negotiating on such a document. Apparently, this is exactly what Ilham Aliyev was betting on when, during his recent interview with Russian media, he sent signals to Moscow and Tehran that a potential military operation against Armenia would not be directed against the interests of Moscow and Tehran. Once again, we see how synchronically Pashinyan and Aliyev act…
While Pashinyan happily reports that he “succeeds in conducting a balanced foreign policy,” and his “talking heads” convince society that the document is “historic and unprecedented,” we can only remind you that the United States has already signed similar charters with countries such as Ukraine, Georgia, and even Afghanistan (which did not save them from problems). It is also worth noting that January 14 has every chance to become Armenia’s “October 6, 2022”, when the Prague conspiracy put an end to the Artsakh statehood in favor of anti-Russian forces.
Think about it…
