Proposal for road special status was made only once, and Karabakh was to be connected to Armenia via Lachin Corridor – Robert Kocharyan

During a press conference, Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan responded to a question about why he consistently uses the term “corridor,” despite repeated claims that the road passing through Armenia would be an ordinary road on the country’s sovereign territory.
“Because we don’t believe a single word from those who say ‘road.’ And it is not without reason—we don’t believe them because they have given us no reason to trust them. If it really is just a road, then why is it singled out from other routes that are supposed to be opened? For example, in the proposals of the Minsk Group, this road was never treated separately. By the way, the proposal for a special status for the road was made only once. In exchange for that, Karabakh was supposed to be connected to the Republic of Armenia via the Lachin Corridor. That’s a fact, and I personally led those negotiations. I knew exactly what I was agreeing to and what I was getting in return,” Kocharyan said.
