The acquisition of reconnaissance drones by Armenia may have more political than military significance, Avetik Kerobyan, former chairman of the Military-Industrial Committee, said in an interview with Alpha News.
According to him, there is no pressing military necessity for such drones. “This is not so much of military or local importance as it is political. There is a political component here,” he said.
At the same time, the former official emphasized that it can be seen positively that the United States, as a leading technological and military power, is providing certain equipment to a small country like Armenia.
He pointed out that this is not the first time the US has offered military support to Armenia. However, he also expressed concern about possible political consequences.
“Such cooperation could give the US administration grounds to reconsider or even cancel the restrictions imposed by Section 907, which prohibit supplying military equipment and arms to Azerbaijan. That could have very negative consequences for us,” Kerobyan said.
Addressing regional developments, he recalled that US Vice President JD Vance announced in Baku the delivery of motorboats to Azerbaijan’s navy. He noted that although some have tried to compare those supplies with the equipment intended for Armenia, the issue is in fact much broader.
