Public opinion silenced those who wanted to remove 102nd base in Gyumri – Derenik Malkhasyan

Alpha News spoke with political scientist Derenik Malkhasyan, a representative of the Mother Armenia movement, about the recent protests demanding the withdrawal of the Russian military base located in Gyumri.

He noted that the Mother Armenia movement views the Russian military base as one of the most important guarantees of Armenia’s independence and security.

“The so-called pro-Western forces, through their actions, demonstrate that their positions align more closely with the interests of Turkey and Azerbaijan, especially when they call for the withdrawal of the base,” he said.

According to Malkhasyan, Gyumri is against such reckless steps.

“With our actions, we have proven that public opinion has silenced the pro-Western forces. I will not be surprised if it turns out that the Turkish president has called on the Armenian authorities to address the issue of the Russian base. The only obstacle to Turkey’s expansion into the South Caucasus and Central Asia is the Russian base located in Armenia and the Russian factor itself,” the political scientist added.
