Public protest led to reduction in tariffs, but boycott will continue anyway – Manuk Sukiasyan

Manuk Sukiasyan, the head of the Mother Armenia faction of the Yerevan City Council, in an interview with Alpha News, spoke about concessions of Mayor Tigran Avinyan. The latter announced the day before that citizens would have to pay 150 drams for one trip, and also, according to him, will be provided with more affordable tariffs.
“Denying their own point of view with a one-day difference shows that these authorities do not have any strategic and responsible calculations regarding the transport system.
The wave of pressure from public protest and the boycott simply forced them to make this retreat. This boycott and public pressure will continue even after February 1,” Manuk Sukiasyan said.
According to him, many citizens boycott and do not pay for public transport even today.
“The residents of Yerevan have no other choice but to continue the boycott,” Manuk Sukiasyan stressed.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan said earlier that there would be no concessions. Public transport will start operating at new, higher fares starting on February 1. The mayor’s office has proposed new fare tariffs from 300 to 90 thousand drams per year.
