Russian President Vladimir Putin has said it is necessary to prevent destabilization of the situation in the CIS and neighboring regions.

“It is necessary to prevent destabilization of the situation both in the CIS and in neighboring regions. For this, as before, it is important to identify any negative trends and potential threats to collective security, forecast their development, and exchange information and work experience,” Russia’s foreign intelligence service chief Sergei Naryshkin read out Putin’s address at a meeting of heads of security and intelligence agencies of CIS countries in Moscow.

Putin has emphasized that for 20 years such meetings have allowed discussing pressing and topical professional issues, developing joint solutions aimed at protecting the CIS countries from internal and external threats, and building new forms and mechanisms of cooperation between intelligence services relevant to the challenges of the time.

“Today, in difficult geopolitical conditions, your constructive interaction is especially important,” he noted, expressing confidence that the meeting will become a significant stage in deepening partnership for the benefit of the CIS states and peoples, as well as help consolidate peace and security in the Commonwealth.
