Putin was surprised by Armenia-Azerbaijan settlement – Trump

US President Donald Trump stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin was surprised by his ability to resolve the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Actually, Putin called me. He said, I can’t believe you got that one settled,” Trump said at the US–Saudi Arabia Investment Forum.

On August 8, 2025, a declaration was adopted following a meeting in Washington between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and the US President. It confirmed that the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan had initialed an agreed text of an agreement establishing peace and interstate relations between the two countries. Yerevan also agreed to cooperate with the United States and third parties in creating the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP).
