Russia detains Azerbaijani citizen over planned terrorist attacks

An Azerbaijani citizen has been detained in Russia for planning terrorist attacks in Yessentuki and Stavropol under the direction of a Ukrainian terrorist organization, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

“The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has thwarted another attempt to carry out a series of sabotage and terrorist acts by the Ukrainian regime on our territory,” the statement reads.

According to the FSB, the suspect intended to assemble several improvised explosive devices using skills acquired during his service in special forces. Authorities seized components for the devices, communication equipment, and evidence of his activities.
