Russia was among the first countries in the world to condemn the Genocide at the legislative level, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said during a regular briefing.

“April 24 marks the 110th anniversary of one of the most tragic events of the first half of the 20th century—the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. Moscow’s position on these events is well known. It is consistent and based on humanistic traditions. Already in 1915, at the initiative of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Sazonov, the leading members of the international community recognized these events as a crime against humanity… Russia has always perceived the grief of the brotherly Armenian people as its own,” she said.
