Russia MFA comments on Armenia-US upcoming drills

The upcoming Eagle Partner exercise between Armenia and the United States causes nothing but regret, especially amid Armenia’s freezing of its participation in the CSTO, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a press briefing on Friday.

“These exercises will be held for the second time and cause nothing but regret, especially amid Yerevan’s actual freezing of its activities in the CSTO and public attacks on the organization,” she said.

According to her, the Americans have never been so active before, and the US has not shown such heartfelt generosity.

“Maybe not the current Armenian authorities, but someone will still have to pay for this help. They will help you with decision-making, but they will use your territory, resources, and opportunities without taking into account your own interests,” Zakharova added.

She noted that Russia has always been and remains committed to allied commitments, including Armenia’s security issues, and has sought to find mutually acceptable solutions.

“At the same time, Yerevan’s steps, which are becoming systemic in nature, undermine the prospects for the functioning of well-established mechanisms in this area,” she said.
