Russia is preparing an appeal to Armenia that Yerevan’s rapprochement with the European Union contradicts the norms of the Eurasian Economic Union, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said in response to a question from the TASS news agency.
“I am going to sign a letter addressed to my colleague Mher Grigoryan, in which we express our view that such actions contradict the norms of the Eurasian Economic Union,” Overchuk said.
The deputy prime minister also warned that Russia would consider applying appropriate measures.
“We are closely following the developments in Armenia. Of course, we will always respect the choice of the Armenian people, but at the same time we understand—and this has already been confirmed by Nikol Pashinyan—that Armenia cannot remain simultaneously in both the EAEU and the European Union,” he emphasized.
