Russian Defense Minister’s statement about Syunik is an alarming signal – Denis Denisov

Speaking with Alpha News, Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, commented on the Russian Defense Minister’s statement that tensions around Armenia’s Syunik region persist.

“Of course, the statement itself is quite an alarming signal, but I have a feeling that the international and regional situation that we are currently observing should prevent a new armed confrontation,” Denisov said.

According to the expert, in the event of a new conflict, Russia will proceed from its obligations.

“It is too early to talk about Russia’s position. Russia’s position will naturally be based on the existing legal documents and obligations, but also on its national interests. There is no point in making premature judgments or loud statements about whether Russia will or will not provide support in the event of a new conflict. At the same time, I personally do not have the feeling that we are on the brink of a new war,” Denisov concluded.
