At the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in Minsk, we discussed the interference of external forces in the affairs of the organization’s states, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a press conference on Friday.

“The US and its satellites are trying to invade all regions of the common territory of the Commonwealth, trying to undermine the agreements on stabilization of the situation in the South Caucasus. They do not want to allow the implementation of the agreements that were reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan with Russia’s mediation,” he said.

Lavrov added that the US is actively trying to penetrate Central Asia and create formats there directed against Russia, while at the same time publicly declaring a desire to achieve “real sovereignty” for post-Soviet countries.

“Under enormous pressure, our allies, strategic partners remain committed to all the basic principles on which cooperation within the CIS, the CSTO, the Eurasian Economic Union, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is based. I am sure that strategically, the West’s policy is doomed to failure,” he added.
