Russian FM comments on Armenia’s possible withdrawal from CSTO

Armenia has not sent documents on the possible withdrawal from the CSTO, so this issue and the possible consequences of the country’s withdrawal were not discussed at the meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a press briefing following the meeting.

“The procedure for Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO was not discussed because there was no respective request,” he said.

According to him, the possible consequences of this step were not discussed either.

“It is not in the traditions of diplomacy to talk about ifs and if nots. As I said, yes, the Armenian [foreign] minister was not present at the meeting today, but there was no document from Armenia, no official step that would make it necessary to discuss the consequences of what did not happen,” he added.
