Samvel Karapetyan denied visit to father’s grave on Day of Remembrance

Philanthropist and businessman Samvel Karapetyan was denied permission to visit his father’s grave on the Day of Remembrance of the Dead (Merelots), observed the day after Christmas, Karapetyan’s lawyer Aram Vardevanyan said on Facebook.

“An obviously unlawful imprisonment applied against Samvel Karapetyan from June 18 to December 30, 2025, was replaced with house arrest and additional restrictions.

For Samvel Karapetyan, as for any follower of the Armenian Apostolic Church, it was extremely important to visit his father’s grave on the Day of Remembrance of the Dead together with close relatives. We appealed on this matter both to the investigator and to the prosecutor. Today it became clear that this petition was rejected.

The basic principle of humanism is respected even in times of war between nations, yet political persecution in the case of Samvel Karapetyan knows no boundaries,” he said.
