Entrepreneur Samvel Karapetyan has filed another lawsuit demanding the retraction of defamatory information. This time, the suit targets the ruling Civil Contract party over a publication on the news website Civic. In particular, the article published on October 6 alleged that “Samvel Karapetyan will actively bribe people.”
Karapetyan submitted the claim to the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, seeking a court order for the outlet to retract the defamatory statements and issue an apology. He is also demanding compensation for moral damages in the amount of 6 million drams. The case has been assigned to Judge Tatul Ghukasyan.
This is not the businessman’s only lawsuit in the past month. According to the Datalex judicial system, Karapetyan has filed a claim against Alisa Sevoyan, demanding an apology and 3 million drams in compensation. That case is being handled by Judge Ashot Hovhannisyan.
Previously, Samvel Karapetyan had filed 17 lawsuits related to defamation and insult. Among the defendants are Civil Contract party MPs Hayk Konjoryan and Arsen Torosyan, the Prime Minister’s press secretary Nazeli Baghdasaryan, Deputy Chief of Staff Taron Chakhoyan, as well as political analysts Harutyun Mkrtchyan, Ruben Mehrabyan, Levon Shirinyan, Azat Arshakyan, and bloggers Roman Baghdasaryan and Lusine Kesoyan. Each lawsuit also includes a claim for moral damages.
In some cases, the court has imposed interim measures. For instance, the property of MP Arsen Torosyan has been frozen in the amount of 9 million drams.
