Anahit Avagyan, a representative of the Union of Armenians of Scandinavia, spoke with Alpha News about the repressive actions taken by Armenian authorities against the Church.

“After Nikol Pashinyan launched his dirty campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church, we issued a condemnatory statement on behalf of the union and called on all national forces to unite around the Church and support it. This was followed by the arrest of Samvel Karapetyan, Archbishops Bagrat and Mikayel. And we could not remain indifferent to all this and issued a new condemnatory statement,” she noted.

According to Avagyan, Danish media took an interest in the issue primarily due to Samvel Karapetyan’s involvement.

“The local Armenian community is very outraged by what is happening in Armenia today. And I believe every person who considers himself an Armenian feels very humiliated and angry watching all this. Even the locals cannot understand the steps of the authorities, they note that if any political body has gone against the Church in such a dirty way and with such repressions, it considers it its competitor. As for the media, I should note that Denmark does not comment much on the developments in Armenia. However, recently we saw an article published that spoke about the so-called ‘planned coup d’état’ on the part of the Archbishop and his supporters. I believe the Danish media are interested in this topic only because of Samvel Karapetyan’s involvement,” she concluded.
