Alpha News reports that on the evening of August 31, eight cattle belonging to three families of the village of Voskepar hit a mine near Nerkin Voskepar in the Tavush region.
The administrative head of the Voskepar village, Ishkhan Aghbalyan, confirmed the information, specifying that 7 cows hit a mine, the carcasses of 4 animals were recovered from the area, and their meat is now unfit.
Ishkhan Aghbalyan did not want to provide details about why the cows passed through this area.
It should be noted that the incident occurred in the disputed territory, the so-called part of the triangle, which, according to rumors, should be exchanged for the lands of Berkaber village, which came under Azerbaijan’s control since the 1990s.
An anonymous source told Alpha News that this disputed area has not yet passed the process of delimitation and demarcation and is under the control of the Armenian armed forces.
On June 16, during PM Pashinyan’s visit to the Syunik region, residents of Chakaten village complained that their cattle go to pastures and do not return back, in response to which the PM showed a picture of the barbed wire fence in Voskepar, assuring that it is impossible for the cattle to cross it.
“Cows will not be able to get there because there are border guards standing, but even if they do, they will not be able to cross the fence,” Pashinyan said.
