The Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America has released a statement condemning the inappropriate conduct of the Armenian police towards the Patriarch of All Armenians and the clergy.

“We are saddened to learn about the inappropriate conduct of the Armenian police who tried to prevent the Catholicos of All Armenians from entering the Sardarapat Memorial on May 28, the day of the 106th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia and the heroic Battle of Sardarapat. We have to state with deep pain that what happened was a shameful incident that has no precedent.

The Western Diocese of North America, headed by the Diocesan Leader, the Diocesan Council, and the clergy, strongly condemns the way of working of the Armenian police towards the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Catholicos of All Armenians, which is beyond all limits of common sense.

We call on the state authorities to carefully and impartially investigate the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable,” the statement reads.
