Since 2018 EU has chosen silence – ARF member

Members of the ARF “Nikol Aghbalyan” Student Union are holding a protest outside the EU delegation office. Their goal is to draw the European Union’s attention to the issue of political prisoners in Armenia. The demonstration is taking place under slogans such as “Freedom for Political Prisoners”, “Justice Without Double Standards”, and others.

According to one of the protesters, since 2018 the EU has chosen to remain silent. “The people shown in these photographs are imprisoned on political orders because they disagree with the current situation in the country. At the authorities’ instruction, they became political prisoners, and the EU preferred to turn a blind eye,” he said.

When asked whether there will be progress on the issue of returning captives in light of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s visit to Brussels, the protester noted that he does not trust Armenia’s authorities: “How can we trust them, when citizens are being imprisoned right here in Armenia?”
