Spanish MP: Armenia, unlike Azerbaijan, is a democratic country in the region
Spanish MP Jon Iñárritu believes that it is very important to recognize the realities of the Caucasus region, where Armenia is a democratic country while Azerbaijan does not even have a solid democratic system.
“There is a clear difference in the two countries’ approaches to the ongoing conflict. Armenia strives for self-defense and reaching a peace agreement, while Azerbaijan resorts to aggression, occupation, and threats,” the Spanish MP said, responding to a question from Armenpress about the ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“A peace agreement is undoubtedly the best option for the stability of both countries and the entire region. However, it is crucial to understand and realize that lasting peace can only be achieved through negotiations in the spirit of goodwill and mutual respect rather than by dictating conditions that can lead to forced retreat,” he said.
According to Iñárritu, imposing unfair conditions or striving for a unilateral victory will only lead to further conflicts and tensions.
“Ultimately, the commitment to just and lasting peace in the Caucasus region should meet the legitimate aspirations of both peoples and contribute to stability and mutual cooperation,” Iñárritu concluded.
