Speaking with Alpha News, Denis Denisov, a political scientist and expert of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, commented on a statement by Khachatur Sukiasyan, a member of the Civil Contract party. Sukiasyan said that the people of Artsakh did not fight during the Azerbaijani aggression in 2023.

“This statement highlights the deep divisions within Armenian society. We know about this split between the residents of Artsakh and the rest of Armenia, and it is, of course, most evident in the political sphere and among politicians. It is a strange and erroneous claim. Moreover, it is unlikely that the person simply did not have the data, the person simply wanted to convey his message, his idea, which can hardly be acceptable to the majority of the residents of Armenia. This is an example of scapegoating—shifting responsibility onto others.

As a member of the ruling party, naturally, it is not in his interests to say that the current prime minister or his political force is largely to blame for the situation that has developed. Therefore, various attempts are being made—often offensive and foolish—to shift responsibility from themselves to someone else,” Denisov said.
