Stricter restrictions are now applied to Samvel Karapetyan than in detention – lawyer

For the first time, we are speaking about the health condition of Samvel Karapetyan. It has worsened due to improper conditions of detention in the correctional facility, Armen Feroyan, a member of the businessman’s defense team, said at an urgent press conference.

“Samvel Karapetyan always asked us not to talk about this at all, but in our complaints we constantly raised the issue. All judges—at least two judges of the first instance and two judges of the appellate court—clearly recorded the fact that if the lack of proper medical care and support for Samvel Karapetyan continues, this will be grounds for changing the preventive measure. Four different judges noted that the obligation of the body conducting the proceedings is to immediately monitor the state of health and provide appropriate medical care and services. However, the body conducting the proceedings has consistently and categorically failed to do so. As a result, Samvel Karapetyan developed bilateral pneumonia. In the conditions of the correctional facility, the doctor allegedly carried out treatment and claimed that there were no problems,” Feroyan noted.

Speaking about the restrictions under house arrest, the lawyer emphasized that stricter measures are now applied to Samvel Karapetyan than in prison conditions.

“For example, right now Samvel Karapetyan cannot call his son or daughter from home to ask how they are doing, whereas in prison he could do so,” Feroyan added.

On December 30, 2025, the court changed the preventive measure for the businessman: his arrest was replaced with bail and house arrest.
